Jonathan Shaw Policy Connect CEO

Jonathan Shaw

Chief Executive

Jonathan worked as a care assistant, social worker and local councillor before being elected to Parliament for three terms between 1997-2010.

During his time as an MP he was a Minister at DEFRA, DWP and Regional Minister for the South East England. Before joining Policy Connect, Jonathan led a consultancy company that supported a range of organisations across the public, private and voluntary sectors.

He is also chair of a mental health charity, Blackthorn Trust.

Claudia Jaksch

Claudia Jaksch

Head of Sustainability & Chief Operating Officer

As Chief Operating Officer, Claudia provides Policy Connect's Chief Executive with strategic and operational oversight of Policy Connect’s administrative, financial and HR capabilities and advises Policy Connect Board Members on key strategic issues.

As Head of the Sustainability department, Claudia oversees all of Policy Connect's sustainability-themed work on energy and climate change, the circular economy and sustainable resources, the built environment, natural capital and infrastructure. 

Claudia holds a Masters degree in International Political Economy from King's College London and a Bachelor's degree in European Studies from the University of Passau, Germany. Her past experiences include working for Stakeholder Forum, an international organisation dedicated to advancing sustainable development at a global level, as well as roles at the central bank in Germany and in the private sector in Spain.

In her spare time, Claudia enjoys exploring London's world of museums, art galleries, and restaurants, running, playing squash, reading, and travelling.

Oona Muirhead at Policy Connect

Oona Muirhead, CBE

Business Adviser

Oona is the former Chief Executive of a business support Agency, with over 30 years’ experience of Whitehall, local and regional government. Starting her career in the Ministry of Defence, she ran the media operation in the 1999 Kosovo crisis, for which she was awarded the CBE, and the 2001 MOD-wide modernisation programme.   

After roles in the Environment Department and Local Government Association she was selected to develop and deliver the first ever business and climate change strategy for the South East of England business support agency, SEEDA. As Chief Executive of SEEDA, Oona also chaired the London 2012 partnership of public, business and voluntary sector organisations for the South East.

Since 2012 Oona has combined short-term business development assignments with non-executive roles in both the public and private sectors.

She is currently non-Exec Director for the Office for Nuclear Regulation, MSS Global (a small high-growth ethical auditing company), and Trustee of the Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity.

Natasha Adade

Events & Operations Manager

Natasha joined Policy Connect in 2008 and is our Events & Operations Manager, organising the busy events program at Policy Connect. Natasha is the first point of call for events activity; she makes sure that each of Policy Connect's many events runs smoothly.

Natasha has a background in television production with previous roles held at UEFA Champions League and the BBC and BBC World service. She graduated from the University of Westminster and gained a BA in Contemporary Media Practices and is also a member of the Alumni from the Brit School.

In her spare time she enjoys reading, putting together dinner parties, and organising various Ghanaian charity gala events both in the UK and Ghana.

Louise Young

Marketing & Communications Manager

Louise joined Policy Connect in July 2015. She works across all of the policy areas providing marketing and communications support and leadership. 

Her role oversees the strategic development of brand, inquiries and reports, website and digital and of course press coverage amongst many other things. She also sits on the Senior Management Team, assists with corporate social responsibility, and delivers high level Policy Connect events.

Louise has a BA Hons in English from the University of Leicester, and has also studied with the Chartered Institute of Marketing. Since graduating, her career has taken her through the renewables and sustainability industry, having worked in solar, heat pumps, wind and primarily biomass heating sectors (in companies providing everything from design through to training and installation) before joining the Policy Connect team. 

Her hobbies include cooking and baking, exercising and politics.

Education & Skills

Simon Kelleher

Head of Education & Skills

Simon joined the Education and Skills team at Policy Connect in June 2013. He is responsible for managing the team's work across the Skills Commission, the Higher Education Commission and the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Skills and Employment (APGSE).

Prior to joining Policy Connect Simon taught Functional Skills at secondary level in the state sector, and gained research and campaigning experience at the Young Foundation and the British Humanist Association. He holds a BA in History and Politics, and a MA in Social and Political Theory from the University of East Anglia.

Outside of work Simon enjoys reading, climbing, kayaking and getting creative.

Pooja Kumari

Pooja Kumari

Senior Researcher

Pooja joined Policy Connect in October 2016. She leads on inquiries for the Higher Education Commission and provides support for the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Skills and Employment. 

Prior to joining Policy Connect, Pooja worked as a Policy and Research Analyst at a youth charity leading on the evaluation of its flagship school-based programme. She started her career working as a teacher and has taught history in secondary schools in Birmingham and London. Pooja holds a MSc Social Policy (Research) from the London School of Economics, a PGCE from the University of Warwick, and BA (Hons) in History, Government and International Affairs from Durham University. 

Outside of work, Pooja enjoys exercising, socialising, attending public lectures, and exploring new restaurants.

Aaron Bowater

Aaron Bowater

Programme Manager & Senior Researcher

Aaron has worked in the Education and Skills team since March 2016. He is the programme manager of the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Skills and Employment, focusing on the significant reform currently taking place in the wider skills, education and employment landscape, as well as working as the Senior Researcher on behalf of the Skills Commission.

Prior to joining Policy Connect, Aaron worked as Policy and Public Relations Officer for the 157 Group of Further Education Colleges, now the Collab Group. Before this, Aaron spent time working at the International SPY Museum, Washington DC, researching espionage for new exhibits. Aaron holds a BA (Hons) in Politics and an MA in Political and Legal Theory, both from the University of Warwick.

Outside of work, Aaron is a passionate Charlton Athletic supporter. He also enjoys cooking on the BBQ, reading and long (pub) walks.

Beth Wheaton Policy Connect

Beth Wheaton

Researcher, Education & Skills

Beth joined Policy Connect in April 2017. As a researcher in the Education and Skills team, she is currently conducting research for the Skills Commission’s Spotlight inquiry and also provides support to the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Skills and Employment.

Before joining Policy Connect, Beth completed a Policy and Research internship with the Family and Childcare Trust. She contributed to policy reports, helped with the research phase of a pilot childcare programme and provided evaluation support for the programmes run by the charity. Beth holds a BSc in Politics and International Relations from the University of Bath.

Outside of work, living by the seaside means Beth enjoy lots of long walks and cycling along the beach. She also enjoys baking, reading and watching any interesting documentaries she can find.

Energy Safety

Sara Abuzaid

Sara Abuzaid

Manager, Energy Safety

Sara joined Policy Connect in June 2016. As Manager of Energy Safety, Sara coordinates the work of both the Carbon Monoxide All Fuels Action Forum & the All-Party Parliamentary Carbon Monoxide Group, which work to discuss ways of tackling carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning, to improve government policy on carbon monoxide safety, and to raise public awareness of the threat posed by deadly CO gas.

She holds an LL.B (Hons) in Law from London South Bank University, and an MA in Middle East Politics from the University of Exeter.

Outside of work, Sara enjoys photography and has an interest in art history.

Jake Botham

Researcher & Project Officer, Energy Safety

Jake joined Policy Connect in January 2017, and primarily supports the work and activities of the Energy Safety team. This includes coordination of the All-Party Parliamentary Carbon Monoxide Group and the Carbon Monoxide All Fuels Action Forum.

Jake graduated with BA (Hons) in International Relations and History from the University of Leicester, and has worked with number of Labour MPs in the past.

Health

Judy Abel

Judith Abel

Head of Health Policy

Judy manages the All-Party Parliamentary Health Group and the Chronic Pain Policy Coalition, and has worked in the health field for a number of years, working at the British Medical Association from 2001-2009, including as the BMA’s Public Information Manager.

Judy has also edited Wellbeing, the quarterly newsletter of the Anxiety Alliance, for the past five years, as she has a particular interest in health information. At the BMA Judy was an assessor in the annual Patient Information Awards run by the BMA Library. From 2012-2014 Judy worked as Constituency Office Manager and a Senior Caseworker for the Rt. Hon. Simon Hughes, then MP for Bermondsey and Old Southwark, specialising in health, housing and social care casework.

Judy has a BSc in Geography from Bristol University and an M.Phil in European Governmental Studies from Edinburgh University.

Ryan Duncanson

Ryan Duncanson

Researcher & Project Coordinator

Ryan is a Researcher & Project Coordinator in the Health team, assisting with all aspects of the work of the All-Party Parliamentary Health Group.

Ryan holds a BA (Hons) in History and Politics from the University of Glasgow and an MA in International Relations from the Barcelona Institute of International Studies. Prior to joining Policy Connect, Ryan worked at the University of Edinburgh’s Global Health Academy assisting with research and liaising with members. He also has experience of working as an intern at charity Sue Ryder where worked in research and policy. 

In his spare time Ryan enjoys reading and playing rugby.

Dr George Dibb

Dr. George Dibb

Head of Manufacturing, Design & Innovation

As Head of Manufacturing, Design & Innovation at Policy Connect, George oversees and coordinates the work of the All-Party Parliamentary Manufacturing Group, the Manufacturing Commission, the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Design and Innovation, the Design Commission, and the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Data Analytics.

George holds a PhD in Physics and joined Policy Connect in September 2016 after working at the National Physical Laboratory (NPL) for three years as a Higher Research Scientist. In addition George holds experience working at a European aerospace manufacture and design corporation. 

Outside work, George enjoys cooking, marathon running, pub quizzes, playing the piano and is currently attempting to learn Italian.

Jack Tindale

Manager, Design

Jack joined the Policy Connect team in April 2016. He coordinates the Design Commission within our Manufacturing, Design and Innovation programme, directly managing the All-Party Parliamentary Design and Innovation Group and the Design Commission.  

Jack graduated from LSE with a BSc in Government and History in 2012. After a term in which he served as Community and Welfare Officer for the LSE Students' Union, he later worked as a researcher to a member of the House of Lords and as Communications Officer at Transport for London.

Outside Policy Connect, Jack is an amateur writer and graphic designer, having helped to establish an online publishing label specialising in counterfactual history. He also enjoys reading political biographies, Gilbert and Sullivan, and craft beer.

Benjamin Klos Policy Connect

Benjamin Klos

Senior Researcher, Manufacturing, Design & Innovation

Ben joined the Policy Connect team in April 2017. His work focuses on the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Data Analytics within the Manufacturing, Design and Innovation group. He also conducts research for the Energy Safety group, where he will contribute to an inquiry for the All-Party Carbon Monoxide Group.

Ben holds a PhD in Political Economy from Brunel University and has previously worked in a London-based PR agency in addition to his academic research. His PhD conducted a comparative analysis of the European Union’s management of the Greek and Irish economic crises.

Ben is passionate about European history, football and travelling. He has been backpacking in South East Asia, Central America and African and hopes to one day travel on the Trans-Siberian railway.

Mitya Pearson

Mitya Pearson

Manager, Carbon Connect

Mitya joined Policy Connect in January 2016 and initially worked across Policy Connect's sustainability-themed activities. Mitya is now the Manager of Carbon Connect, the cross-party policy research forum that seeks to inform and guide a low carbon transformation underpinned by sustainable energy.

Mitya has a BA in Politics from the University of Sheffield and an MA in Politics & Contemporary History from the Institute of Contemporary British History at King’s College London.

His interests outside of work include playing and watching football, reading and walking.

Tabitha Dale Policy Connect

Tabitha Dale

Manager, Sustainable Resources

Tabitha joined Policy Connect in March 2017. As the manager of sustainable resources, she works within Policy Connect's sustainability-themed work, particularly overseeing the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Sustainable Resources.

Before joining Policy Connect, she worked in the Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs, in a number of science and policy roles including water quality, marine environment management and sustainable development. Tabitha holds a BSc. (Hons) in Microbiology and Virology from the University of Warwick, and an MSc. in Applied Molecular Microbiology from the University of Nottingham.

Outside work, Tabitha enjoys good food and drink, the cinema, swimming, and she does occasional background acting for film and TV.

Jim Clark Westminster Sustainable Business Forum

Jim Clark

Sustainability Manager (Westminster Sustainable Business Forum)

Jim joined Policy Connect in April 2017. Within the Sustainability team, he particularly oversees the work of the Westminster Sustainable Business Forum.

Before starting at Policy Connect, Jim worked in Parliament as a Researcher. Before that he worked for a number of charities in marketing and events. Jim holds degrees in Biology, Conservation and Marketing from York, UCL and CIM respectively.

In his spare time he enjoys running, watching football and reading.

Thomas Evans

Thomas Evans

Researcher & Project Coordinator

Thomas Evans joined Policy Connect in September 2016 as Researcher and Project Co-ordinator for Sustainability, and is responsible for contributing to the research aspects of the work of the All-Party Parliamentary Sustainable Resource Group (APSRG), the Westminster Sustainable Business Forum (WSBF) and Carbon Connect. 

Thomas holds a BA in Natural Sciences from the University of Cambridge, and an MSc in Environmental Technology (Global Environmental Change and Policy) from Imperial College London. His past experiences include working at TRAFFIC International, the UN Environment Programme World Conservation Monitoring Centre, and interning in Parliament under an MP.

His interests outside of work include film photography, playing guitar, and tennis.
